Here you’ll find answers to common questions about WEVO Pro 4.0, designed to make your transition seamless and your research more efficient.
General Questions
1. Will the new intake process impact the way results are displayed?
No, the new intake process does not impact how results are displayed. However, the results will only include sections you choose to submit during the intake process. If optional sections like expectations are removed to accommodate custom questions, they won’t appear in the final report.
2. Does the new intake process affect how WEVO recruits participants?
No, WEVO’s participant recruitment process remains unchanged. The new intake flow is designed to codify your study setup more efficiently, reducing the time it takes to deliver WEVO results without compromising quality.
3. Why did WEVO transition from offering Journeys and Classic Tests to focusing on a single product?
We’ve streamlined our offerings to provide a unified, flexible solution in WEVO Pro 4.0. This allows clients to define their tests based on specific needs rather than choosing between product types. Rest assured, your tests will still be benchmarked against relevant data to ensure actionable insights.
4. What happened to Pro Lite?
We’ve integrated Pro Lite into WEVO Pro 4.0, offering more flexibility. You can still run "lite" tests with smaller sample sizes (N=10 or N=50), perfect for quick insights or low-budget studies. Pricing reflects these options dynamically in the test summary section.
Test Setup Questions
5. What assets are needed to launch a WEVO study?
There are three types of assets that can be used for WEVO tests. Participants can respond to a prototype experience, a live experience, or a static image of a page or asset.
Prototypes
To test prototypes, provide WEVO with the URL for the prototype. The URL should link to the first step of the experience you are testing.
Prototype requirements & recommendations:
- Prototypes should be produced in Figma, Invision, or another similar prototyping tool.
- Prototypes should be high fidelity and look like the real thing.
- We recommend you include the "hot spots" that show the users where to click next in case they get confused.
- Prototypes should not have unnecessary friction such as:
- Blurry images
- Image placeholders
- Lorem Ipsum or other obvious placeholder text
- Partial construction
- Wireframes
- If your prototype is password protected, provide the password when you submit the test.
- Prototypes must remain active until you receive your WEVO results. We recommend keeping prototypes active as long as you are reviewing and circulating results, so stakeholders can review the participant experience.
- Hide all the prototyping tool UI, which has the potential to distract survey participants as they evaluate your experience.
Live sites
To test live sites, provide WEVO with the URL of the first step of the experience you are testing.
Live site requirements & recommendations:
- Do not perform A/B tests on the pages in your experience while you are testing with WEVO.
- Do not make any changes to the pages in your experience while you are testing with WEVO.
- WEVO cannot ask users to make a purchase or provide personally identifiable information.
6. What is the purpose of the Primer in my study?
The Primer answers for users “Why am I here?” The Primer sets the context for participants, guiding their mindset as they engage with your test. It helps ensure that feedback is relevant and aligned with your goals. For example, a Primer can instruct participants to imagine they are shopping for a particular product or to consider the design as if they were using it daily.
You can also upload an accompanying image to reinforce the scenario, making the experience clearer for participants. A well-crafted Primer leads to more focused and actionable insights.
WEVO-suggested Primer goals
Most customers choose a primary goal from the list of suggested primary goals in the intake form. Here is the list of suggested primary goals that WEVO offers:
- Experience Evaluation: Where are the ‘pain points’ in my multi-step flow (e.g. sign-up, checkout, booking a service, paying a bill, etc.)
- Comparison tests: How do users assess my page versus a new design(s) or competitors' design(s)? Or, how do my competitors perform against each other?
- Messaging testing: Does the messaging resonate with users? Is the message clear?
- Usability Assessment: What are the pain points in the navigation of my experience? What makes it hard to move forward (e.g. can't find a button)?
- Information Discovery: Can users easily find the information they need?
- Value Assessment: Do users feel that the value proposition and benefits resonate?
7. What is the purpose of adding a task for participants?
Tasks answer “What am I doing?” for users. Tasks guide participants on what to do when engaging with your experience. It can be as simple as “carefully reviewing the page” or as detailed as completing a flow.
Clear, actionable tasks improve the quality of participant feedback and ensure participant focus. Simple tasks like “review this page” are perfectly acceptable and do not need to reference a flow or complex interaction.
8. How do I get a preview link for my study?
With the release of WEVO Pro 4.0, you can see a preview of the survey participants will see on the right-hand side of the screen, as you are setting up a new study. Just be sure to click on the ‘Preview’ tab (to the right of the ‘Summary’ tab). This includes most of the questions in the study as well as special information about the study that you will see in boxes in the Preview. These boxes are NOT visible to the survey participant.
If you would like to get a link to the entire study as the survey participant will see it (and that you can share with your colleagues), then please click on the ‘Request Interactive Preview’ button on the Review page of the study intake. Currently, preview links are delivered within 1-2 business days, but future updates will provide real-time previews.
Insights and Statistical Questions
9. How does the new N=200 option enhance statistical significance?
With a larger sample size of 200 participants, the confidence level of your results increases, reducing variance and providing greater reliability for critical decisions. This is particularly valuable for benchmarking and validating high-stakes features or campaigns. The traditional WEVO with N=120 still achieves statistical significance.
10. What are the advantages of testing with smaller sample sizes like N=10 or N=50?
Smaller sample sizes enable you to get study results back faster and often cost less. This is especially helpful when your team is pressed for time or early-stage product/campaign ideas. Statistical significance is not achieved for N=10 or N=50 studies. Additionally, certain modules may not be available when choosing a smaller number of participants. For example, when choosing N=50 or below, the study cannot include the Expectations module. When choosing N=10, the study additionally cannot include Diagnostics or Key Findings.
11. How are tests benchmarked under WEVO Pro 4.0?
Benchmarking has not changed in Pro 4.0. WEVO continues to be benchmarked against a database of over 1 million user studies. Benchmarking is not available for studies of 10 and 50 participants.
Flexibility and Customization Questions
12. Does WEVO allow customized questions?
Yes! Custom questions offer an opportunity to go deeper with your research and ask questions that are central to your test goals/objectives that would not otherwise be addressed in the standard WEVO survey.
Custom question types
WEVO offers six different types of questions:
- Custom qualitative (open-ended text)
- Likert scale (5-point or 7-point scales)
- Use one of WEVO’s pre-populated scales
- Create your own.
- Yes/No
- True/FalseBinary
- Use a custom scale
- Multiple choice (up to 10 choices)
- Multiple-select multiple choice (up to 15 choices)
- Click Map
If you choose a Likert scale, binary, multiple-choice, multi-select, or click map question, you have the option to include a follow-up qualitative question.
Question types to avoid:
- Double-barrelled questions like “How engaging and trustworthy is this experience?”
- Open-ended questions that ask for more than one answer like “Pick 3 pieces of content or information that are the most important to you.”
- Priming or leading questions like “Do you like the hero image?”
- Asking two distinct questions as one question like “What do you dislike about this App Store screen? What would you want to change or improve?”
- Questions that ask respondents to predict future behavior (especially intent) like “How likely are you to purchase this product after seeing the website?”
- Questions that require respondents to respond to something they aren’t seeing on the page/experience like “Thinking between a multi-paged or single-paged approach to a credit card application, which do you prefer?”
Suggested custom questions when you select a WEVO-suggested primary goal
If you select a WEVO primary goal, you’ll see some suggested questions when you get to the custom questions section of the intake form. These questions are designed to help add additional context to your primary goals. However, these questions are optional and you do not need to use them. If you have your own questions to add, and you do not want to use the suggested questions, you can press the ‘delete’ button for each question you’d like to remove.

13. Can I remove sections like expectations to add more custom questions?
Yes! The new intake process allows you to remove optional sections like expectations or sentiment maps, freeing up space for up to 25 custom questions tailored to your goals.
14. Can I compare multiple experiences in one test?
Yes, you can! The new intake flow allows you to toggle on “Compare,” enabling side-by-side testing of multiple URLs, prototypes, or image files.
With compare, you can:
- Evaluate Competitors' Experiences: Customers can compare their digital journeys against those of their competitors, enabling a direct assessment of performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Conduct Champion/Challenger Tests: This feature allows users to test and compare multiple variations of their designs, facilitating effective A/B testing to identify the winning design that delivers the best results.
15. Can I design a test with custom questions only?
Yes! Starting December 16th, 2024, you can remove all pre-defined sections from traditional WEVO studies, such as expectations and sentiment maps, and build a fully customized test based entirely on your questions. This allows you to tailor the study to meet your specific goals while still leveraging WEVO’s ability to source the right audience and ensure high-quality feedback.
16. Can I launch a test with custom questions and no image?
Yes, you can! WEVO Pro 4.0 allows you to build a study using only custom questions without uploading an image or URL. This setup functions like a survey, making it ideal for exploratory research or gathering secondary data.
By using this approach, you can focus entirely on understanding participant perspectives, preferences, or behaviors without tying the study to a specific visual asset. This flexibility is perfect for early-stage research or testing abstract concepts.
Pricing and Cost Questions
17. How does the real-time pricing estimator work?
As you build your test, the real-time pricing estimator dynamically updates to reflect the cost, in credits, based on your selections. If there are any adjustments to the estimated cost, you’ll be notified before launch.
Audience Questions
18. How does choosing audiences work?
WEVO’s platform has standard demographics you can select from, and you can also add custom audience details when you build your test.
Panel sourcing
WEVO is integrated with a global network of panel providers. This enables you to receive feedback from your precise target audience, drawn from a highly diverse set of more than 30 million individual consumers and business decision-makers. WEVO’s systems monitor response characteristics and demographics in real-time to ensure the quotas you set are accurately met.
Niche/specialized audiences
If you wonder "Can WEVO find this audience?'' please contact your Customer Success Manager about the audience you are interested in targeting. WEVO will run a feasibility check with our various panels to see if your audience is possible. Feasibility checks are free and typically can get you an answer within 2-3 days.
19. Can I bring my own Panel for a test?
Instead of using WEVO’s panel participants, BYOP allows you to collect feedback from your own participants, such as customers, prospects, employees, or panel list you already work with.
Setting up BYOP
To use your own list of participants, please reach out to your WEVO Customer Success Manager (CSM), or to customersuccess@wevoconversion.com. We will be happy to help you set up a BYOP study.
- If your BYOP request is an internal email list, the set-up time is minimal. WEVO will provide you with a link that you send to your participant list. We suggest you assign a unique respondent ID to each participant to input when taking the study.
- If the BYOP request is an outside panel, WEVO will assess the technical requirements and provide an estimate of the time required to launch with the requested panel.
Additional considerations
- WEVO is unable to manage the panel fielding process with BYOP. Customers who use BYOP will be solely responsible for communication with their participants or panel providers.
- WEVO does not incentivize participants in BYOP tests. You can offer this option yourself, which can help speed up the fielding time.
20. What are the benefits of using a saved audience?
Using a saved audience streamlines your study setup by allowing you to quickly apply previously defined audience criteria, such as demographics, firmographics, or custom screeners. This feature is especially useful for recurring tests or when comparing results across multiple studies, as it ensures consistency in participant selection.
Benefits include:
- Time Savings: No need to recreate audience criteria for each new study.
- Consistency: Maintain alignment across tests by using the same participant parameters.
- Efficiency: Easily tweak saved audiences for new studies without starting from scratch.
Saved audiences help you focus on refining your insights rather than reconfiguring your setup, making WEVO Pro 4.0 even more efficient.
21. Can I customize the audience for my study?
Yes, you can refine your audience by selecting demographic or firmographic screeners (e.g., industry, role) or adding custom screening questions for even more precision.
Other Questions
22. Can I upload live website links or prototypes for testing?
Yes! You can upload live website URLs or prototype links, in addition to image files. For prototypes, toggle the “Prototype” option in the intake flow to notify participants appropriately.
23. How does Preview improve my study setup?
Preview allows you to view exactly what participants will experience, ensuring accuracy and alignment with your goals. This feature helps increase study effectiveness.
24. How long does it take to get results?
WEVO results typically arrive within 2-8 days. The factors that impact the duration of a study include:
- The number of participants - the smaller the number, the faster the result.
- The definition of the target audience - the tighter the criteria are for a target audience, the longer it will take to find the right people.
- Key findings - if key findings are removed, the study will be completed faster.
